Cadence Lessons is operated by Steven Frisbie. This page explains what we store, why we store it, and who else can see it. It is meant to be read, not skimmed past.

What we store

Account details — name and email address for everyone who signs in, plus a securely hashed password if you use one. We never store a readable password.

Studio data — whatever a teacher enters to run their studio: students and their contact details, birthdays if recorded, lesson times and locations, lesson notes, uploaded materials, payments received, and business expenses.

Billing details — a customer reference and subscription status. Card numbers go straight to Stripe and never reach our servers.

Technical logs — ordinary web server records used to keep the service running and diagnose faults.

Students and children

Student records are created by a teacher, not by the student. If a student is a child, their teacher is responsible for having the parent or guardian’s agreement before entering their details, and a parent may ask their teacher — or us — to see or delete what is held about their child at any time.

We do not knowingly collect information directly from children, and we do not advertise to anyone.

Why we store it

Only to provide the service: showing schedules, sharing materials, tracking balances, and taking subscription payments. We do not sell your data, we do not share it for advertising, and we do not use it to train machine learning models.

Who else can see it

These companies process data on our behalf, each for one job:

  • Railway — hosting and the database, where your studio’s data and uploaded files live.
  • Stripe — subscription payments. They receive your billing details directly; we only see whether a subscription is active.
  • Resend — sending emails such as sign-in links and password resets.
  • Cloudflare — domain and DNS.

Beyond those, we share data only if the law requires it. Inside a studio, a teacher can see their own students’ information; students can only see their own.

How long we keep it

For as long as your studio exists. Cancelling a subscription does not delete anything — your data stays so you can come back to it. Deactivating a student keeps their history but stops their sign-in.

We keep encrypted backups of the database, taken daily and kept for about two weeks, so deleted data may persist in a backup for a short time after it disappears from the app.

Your choices

Ask us and we will show you everything we hold about you, correct anything wrong, or delete your account and its data. Teachers can export their own financial records at any time from the Earnings page. If you are in a place with additional rights — the UK, EU, or California, for instance — you have those rights too, and asking is the same process.

Security

Traffic is encrypted in transit, passwords are hashed, uploaded files are served through short-lived signed links rather than public URLs, and access to the production database is limited to the operator. No system is perfect; if we ever have a breach affecting your data we will tell you promptly and plainly.
