Terms of Service
Last updated 11 August 2026
Cadence Lessons is software for running a music teaching business: scheduling lessons, sharing materials, and keeping track of what students owe. It is operated by Steven Frisbie (“we”, “us”). By creating a studio you agree to what follows.
Accounts
A teacher creates a studio and becomes responsible for it. Teachers add their own students, and those students get accounts inside that studio. You are responsible for what happens under your account, including keeping your sign-in details to yourself, and for having the right to enter the information you enter about your students.
Who is responsible for what
Your students’ information is yours, not ours. You decide who to enrol, what to record about them, and how long to keep it; we hold and process it on your instructions so we can run the service for you. That makes some things your responsibility and some things ours, and it is worth being clear which is which.
Yours: having the right to enter what you enter — including a parent or guardian’s agreement where a student is a child — telling your students how their information is used, and meeting whatever rules apply to your own teaching business, such as registration, tax, and safeguarding.
Ours: keeping what you store secure, using it only to provide the service, never selling it, being honest about who processes it on our behalf, and deleting it when you ask.
Trial and subscription
New studios get 14 days free. No card is required to start, and we never charge you automatically when the trial ends — your account simply pauses until you choose to subscribe.
After that, Cadence Lessons costs $14.99 per month or $149.99 per year. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until cancelled. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any tax that may apply where you live.
Cancelling
You can cancel at any time from your billing settings. Your subscription then runs to the end of the period you have already paid for, and does not renew. We do not refund the unused part of a period, so cancelling an annual plan in month three keeps your access for the remaining nine months rather than refunding them.
If a payment fails we will keep your studio working while our payment processor retries the card. You will be told before anything changes.
What happens if you stop paying
Your teacher account is paused until you subscribe again. You will be able to reach your billing settings and export your records, but not your schedule or student pages.
Nothing is deleted and nothing needs setting up again. Your students, your recurring lesson times, your notes and your uploaded materials all stay exactly as they were. Subscribing puts everything back the way you left it, including standing weekly lessons, which resume on their usual day and time.
Your students are not affected. They keep normal access to their own lessons and materials the whole time — they did not buy anything, and your billing is not their problem.
We will warn you by email and in the app before this happens, and we do not delete your data because you stopped paying. If you want it deleted, ask us and we will.
Your content is yours
Lesson notes, uploaded materials, student records — all of it belongs to you. We store and process it to provide the service, and for nothing else. We do not sell it, and we do not use it to train anything.
Fair use
Do not use Cadence Lessons to break the law, to upload material you have no right to share, to harass anyone, or to attack the service or the people using it. We may suspend a studio that does, and will tell you why.
Price changes
We may change what Cadence Lessons costs. If we do, we will tell you by email at least 30 days before it affects you, and you are free to cancel before it takes effect. A change never applies to a period you have already paid for.
The honest disclaimer
Cadence Lessons is provided as it is. We work hard to keep it running and backed up, but we cannot promise it will never be unavailable or never lose data, and you should not rely on it as your only record of anything that matters. Keep your own copy of what you cannot afford to lose — the export in your Earnings page exists for exactly this.
To the extent the law allows, our liability to you is limited to what you have paid us in the previous 12 months.
If someone brings a claim
If a third party brings a claim against us because of something that was your responsibility under these terms — information you entered without the right to, how you used the service, or an obligation of your own teaching business — you agree to cover the reasonable costs of dealing with it, including legal fees.
This does not cover claims caused by our own failings. If the problem is a security breach on our side, a bug in our software, or something we did wrong, that remains ours.
Ending things
You can stop using Cadence Lessons whenever you like. We may end your access if you break these terms, or if we shut the service down — in which case we will give you at least 60 days’ notice and a way to take your data with you.
Changes and contact
If we change these terms we will update this page and, for anything significant, email you. These terms are governed by the laws of Minnesota, United States.
